Alan Smith, Head of Visual and Data Journalism, Financial Times Alan leads the FT's newsroom team of data reporters and visual journalists. A data visualisation specialist, his TEDx talk Why You Should Love Statistics was featured on TED.com in 2017. Alan is the author of How Charts Work, a handbook on designing with data using the FT's principles. Before he joined the FT, he was head of digital content at the UK Office for National Statistics and was awarded an OBE by Queen Elizabeth II for services to official statistics.

Head of the Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br), linked to the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br). Responsible for research projects to produce ICT-related data for the monitoring of national policies and international goals, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Holds a PhD degree in Business Administration from Getulio Vargas Foundation (Brazil), a Master Degree in Business Administration from Bradford University (UK), a MSc Degree in Computer Science from Federal University of Minas Gerais (Brazil) and a BSc Degree in Electrical Engineering from Catholic University (Brazil) and conducted postdoctoral research at HEC Montreal (Canada).

Caitlin Sampaio Mulholland (Ph.D. and Master's in Civil Law, from the State University of Rio de Janeiro, 2006 and 2002) is an associate professor of Civil Law at the Department of Law of the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio), where she currently holds the position of Director of the Law Department. She is a professor in the postgraduate program in Constitutional Law at PUC-Rio. She is the coordinator of the Legalite PUC-Rio Center. She is the author of the books "Civil Liability by Presumption of Causation" and "Internet and Contracting: Overview of Electronic Consumer Contractual Relations." She is the coordinator of the books "LGPD and the New Brazilian Regulatory Framework" and "Artificial Intelligence and Law: Ethics, Regulation, and Responsibility." She is a counselor of CNPD (National Council for Personal Data Protection and Privacy) and a member of the advisory board of ANPD. She is a member of the Civil Law Committee of OAB, Rio de Janeiro Section. She is a member of the Special Committee on Data Protection of the Federal Council of the Brazilian Bar Association. She is associated with the Brazilian Institute of Civil Law - IBDCivil and the Association Henri Capitant des Amis de la Culture Juridique Française. She is a Founding Member of the Advanced Institute of Data Protection (IAPD) and a Founding Member of the Brazilian Institute of Studies in Civil Liability (IBERC).

Danny Pfeffermann is Professor of Social Statistics at the University of Southampton, UK and Professor Emeritus of Statistics at the department of statistics and data science at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Israel. Until about a year ago he served for 9 years as the National Statistician and Director General of Israel's Central Bureau of Statistics. His main research areas are: Analytic inference from complex sample surveys; Seasonal adjustment and Trend estimation; Small area estimation; Inference under informative sampling and nonresponse and more recetly; Mode effects and Proxy surveys. Professor Pfeffermann published many articles in leading statistical journals and co-edited the two-volume handbook on Sample Surveys. He was President of the Israel Statistical Society and of the International Association of Survey Statisticians (IASS) and is Fellow of the American Statistical Association (ASA), the International Statistical Institute (ISI) and the Institute of Mathematical Statistics (IMS).

Demi Getschko holds BSc, MSc, and PhD, degrees in Electronic Engineering from the University of Sao Paulo in Brazil. He is an advisor to the Brazilian Internet Steering Committee (CGI.br), CEO of the Brazilian Network Information Center (NIC.br) and an Associate Professor at the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP). He was a member of the Board of Directors of the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) by the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO). In April 2014 he was an inductee at the Internet Hall of Fame under the category "Global Connectors", in a ceremony held in Hong Kong. In July of the same year, he was awarded with the “Cristina Tavares" prize of the Brazilian Computer Society. In December, on the day of the Engineer, he received from the Engineers' Union, in the State of São Paulo, the "Personality of Technology 2014" award, under the category "Internet." In May 2016 he was admitted to the Order of Merit of Communications, at the "Officer's Degree" as a form of recognition of his services to Communications.

Advancing official statistics through a quality-assured introduction of machine learning in the statistical production process is an important concern of Florian Dumpert. At the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, he heads the unit responsible for artificial intelligence, machine learning, data-driven editing, imputation and Big Data techniques. For about ten years, the mathematician has been dealing with questions of statistical machine learning in science and administration.  

Professor Frauke Kreuter is Co-director of the Social Data Science Center (SoDa) and faculty member in the Joint Program in Survey Methodology (JPSM) at the University of Maryland, USA and Professor of Statistics and Data Science at the Ludwig-Maximilians-University of Munich, Germany. Until recently she served as head of the statistical methods group at the Institute for Employment Research (IAB) in Nuremberg, Germany. She is an elected fellow of the American Statistical Association and a two time recipient of the Warren Mitofsky Innovators Award of the American Association for Public Opinion Research. In addition to her academic work Dr. Kreuter is the Founder of the International Program for Survey and Data Science, developed in response to the increasing demand from researchers and practitioners for the appropriate methods and right tools to face a changing data environment; Co-Founder of the Coleridge Initiative, whose goal is to accelerate data-driven research and policy around human beings and their interactions for program management, policy development, and scholarly purposes by enabling efficient, effective, and secure access to sensitive data about society and the economy; and Co-Founder of the German language podcast Dig Deep.

Gonzalo is an accomplished leader with extensive international experience in change management, information systems, audit, evaluation, and project management. With over 30 years of expertise, Gonzalo is highly skilled in networking, innovative problem-solving, and achieving exceptional results. In UNDP, Gonzalo held pivotal positions that highlighted his proficiency in program and operations management. Recently, as the Chief of Knowledge and Data Management at the Independent Evaluation Office, he led multidisciplinary teams in standardizing processes to support evaluations and spearheaded advancements in artificial intelligence, data integration, and research. As a Programme Specialist at the Regional Audit Centre for Latin America and the Caribbean showcased his leadership in conducting over 50 audit missions across Country Offices. These missions encompassed diverse areas such as operations, governance, program evaluation, and UN System coordination. Gonzalo played a critical role in assessing development outcomes, aligning planning instruments, and driving policy and procedural enhancements. Gonzalo holds a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from Universidad Católica Boliviana in collaboration with Harvard University, further complementing his exceptional credentials. He also possesses a bachelor's degree in Informatics (Computer Science). Gonzalo's outstanding presentation skills have enabled him to conduct workshops and training sessions for diverse audiences across different regions.

Besides his position as a researcher and professor on topics related to Statistics, he is also currently the Undergraduate Coordinator and Assistant Vice Coordinator at the National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE) at the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE).

João Pita Costa (male) is a PhD in Mathematics from the University of Ljubljana. He is a member of the UNESCO International Research Center for Artificial Intelligence, IRCAI, where he is leading the design and development of the SDG observatory. He collaborates as a senior researcher at the Institute Jozef Stefan, currently contributing to the European Commission-funded Smart Water project NAIADES, and extends this collaboration through the spin-off Quintelligence, where he took a key role in the MIDAS project using Big Data to support policy-making in public health. He is also a lecturer on AI-related topics at the Barcelona Business School, ENEB, collaborates with the technological company XLAB as innovation manager, and was head of marketing at the bioinformatics SME Genialis.

OBIA – Brazilian Observatory for AI. Engineer, postgraduate in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence. Entrepreneur, I worked as an executive in the telecommunications industry for 15 years, and I was involved in the early days of the internet in Brazil working at major internet providers.

Luis Aranda is an Artificial Intelligence policy analyst at the OECD, which he joined in 2017. Before joining the OECD, he worked as a Strategist and Business Program Manager at Microsoft, where he conducted executive-level strategy, operations, and end-to-end accelerated-growth projects. Luis has also worked as an engineer for Grupo Bimbo and the United Nations. His work and research interests lie at the intersection between technology, social inclusion and policy. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in engineering, a Master’s in applied math and a PhD in economics.

Coordinator of Quantitative Methods, Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society, Brazilian Network Information Center Responsible for the coordination of quantitative processes at Cetic.br, including large national sample design and selection, field data collection control and quality management, data processing, development of new methodologies including small area estimation projects and non-probability samples studies. Holds a master’s degree in Population Studies and Social Research and a bachelor’s degree in Statistics at the National School of Statistical Science (ENCE).

Marielza Oliveira is the Director of the UNESCO Communications and Information Sector’s Division for Digital Inclusion, Policies and Transformation, where she leads work on access to information and digital transformation. Additionally, Ms. Oliveira is Secretary of UNESCO’s Information for All Programme; UNESCO Observer in the IGF’s Multistakeholder Advisory Group (MAG) and Policy Networks on Internet Fragmentation, on AI, and on Meaningful Access; in ICANN; Internet & Jurisdiction Policy Network; and the European Commission’s High-Level group on Internet Governance. Ms. Oliveira is a member of the Broadband Commission for Sustainable Development’s Membership Committee. Prior experiences include as Director of the UNESCO office covering East Asian; UNDP’s global results data analytics and manager; Associate Director for Governance at UNITAR; oversight of multiple UNDP offices in Latin America; democratic governance programme officer in UNDP Brazil; and UNDP Brazil’s campaign manager for the Millennium Development Goals. She was also Systems Engineer at the US Army Construction Engineering Research Lab (USACERL), where she developed award-winning decision support and expert systems; senior consultant at Fundação Dom Cabral; and Director of Executive Education at Ibmec Business School. She holds a Master of Science in Finance and a Ph.D. in Business Administration with a minor in Cognitive Science from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA. Her professional honors include the 2007 Human Development Awards Special Recognition for Innovation in Human Development Measurement Tool; the 2005 UNDP Administrator’s Award for Innovation and Commitment; the J.M. Jones Award in Business Administration; the selection by Guia da Boa Governança Corporativa Exame as one of Brazil’s top corporate governance specialists; and the Commendation Letter for her nomination as the USACERL Researcher of the Year Award.

Mike is a Deputy Director statistician at the UK Office for National Statistics (ONS). He has over 30 years’ experience as a government statistician, with a significant part of that seeing him have responsibility for delivering key ONS economic and social statistics. He has been responsible for production of the UK monthly Labour Market and Consumer Prices statistics - all scrutinised closely by the Bank of England in setting interest rates and key economic strategy. He has led many transformation projects over the years, in re-engineering statistical tools and statistical systems, at times with other countries' statistical institutes - to more recent projects on transforming the survey elements for a new household financial statistics system and reforming the way in which travel & tourism statistics are produced. More recently, in leading social statistics surveys, he has overseen the production of core social statistics, feeding into many key policy issues across government. He also has experience of organisational design change, in revamping the way in which he led the data collection for ONS business surveys.

Nathan Menton is a statistician in the ICT Data and Analytics division of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Telecommunication Development Bureau where he focuses on the measurement of ICT indicators through household surveys. His work includes managing ICT data collection through country questionnaires and developing statistical models to estimate key ICT indicators such as individual Internet use and mobile phone ownership. Before joining ITU, Nathan worked as a statistician with the UN Economic Commission for Europe and the UN Statistical Division where he coordinated international data collection and analysis on transport, demography, and national accounts at various points. Nathan holds a master’s degree in statistical science from George Mason University.

Dr Pamela Campanelli is a Survey Methods Consultant, Chartered Statistician, and Fellow of the Academy of Social Sciences. Her background is in survey methodology and psychology (University of Michigan) and social statistics (London School of Economics). In the US, she has worked at the University of Michigan and the Bureau of the Census. In the UK she has worked at the Institute for Social and Economic Research and the National Centre for Social Research. She currently runs The Survey Coach business providing both training and consultancy. She regularly teaches short courses in the UK and abroad for government departments, survey research companies, universities, as well as for various other institutions and businesses. She believes in delivering courses that are lively and engaging and foster an informal and interactive atmosphere.

Paulo Kuester Neto is a master's degree holder in Intelligence Technologies and Digital Design from the Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP). He has also completed an MBA in Business Analysis and Big Data from FGV São Paulo, as well as an MBA in Information Security from FIAP. Currently, he works as a Data Science Projects Supervisor in the field of Internet quality measurement at the Information and Coordination Center of .br (NIC.br). In this context, his main areas of investigation focus on quantitative analysis projects, spatial statistics, data visualization, and machine learning models (AI). The objective is to support public connectivity policies and proactively contribute to the framework for monitoring and improving Internet quality in the country.

Pedro Luis do Nascimento Silva was the President of the International Statistical Institute 2015-2017, and is Principal Researcher at the National School of Statistical Sciences (ENCE) of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE). PhD. In Social Statistics (University of Southampton, 1996), Pedro’s main research interests are survey and sampling methodology applied to household and business surveys, as well as the analysis of survey data.

Shachar Kariv is the Benjamin N. Ward Professor of Economics at the University of California, Berkeley. He was educated at Tel Aviv University and New York University, where he received my Ph.D. in economics in 2003, the same year he joined the Department of Economics at UC Berkeley. He formerly was the Chair of the Department of Economics, and Faculty Director of the UC Berkeley Experimental Social Science Laboratory, aka Xlab, a laboratory for conducting experiment-based investigations of issues of interest to social sciences. Shachar’s research in behavioral and experimental economics provides novel tools for understanding individual preferences and attitudes towards risk and time, which inform nearly all aspects of decision-making. The research has uncovered valuable new insights about individuals' financial and non-financial decisions. His academic experience includes visiting professorship positions at Stanford University, Princeton University, University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, the European University Institute, and the Norwegian School of Economics, among others. Among his awards, Shachar was awarded a Sloan Fellowship and received special recognition for his distinguished excellence in teaching from the UC Berkeley Division of Social Sciences and the Haas School of Business. Shachar is also a Co-Founder and Chief Scientist at Capital Preferences, a company revolutionizing enterprise investment advice, lending, insurance, and talent market solutions.

Thiago Meireles holds a PhD and a Master’s in Political Science from University of São Paulo (USP) and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from São Paulo State University (UNESP). He is a data scientist at Regional Center for Studies on the Development of the Information Society (Cetic.br). At Cetic.br works with survey research on internet and communications technology (ICTs) and new technologies for data collection and analysis, as non-probabilistic sampling, georeferenced data and machine learning.

Ton de Waal studied mathematics at Leiden University and Eindhoven University of Technology. In 1993, he started to work at Statistics Netherlands, where he currently is senior methodologist. He obtained his PhD degree in 2003. Since 2014, Ton is also professor in Data Integration at Tilburg University. He is co-author of two books on statistical disclosure control and one book on statistical data editing and imputation. His current fields of interest include imputation of missing data, correction for measurement error, correction for selection error, correction for linkage error, combining estimates for probability and nonprobability samples, statistical matching, and measuring quality of multisource statistics.

Veridiana Domingos Cordeiro is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Center for Artificial Intelligence (IBM-University of São Paulo). Previously, she was a Japan Foundation Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Yokohama City University and visiting researcher at the University of Chicago. She holds an M.A. degree and a Ph.D. in Sociology (University of Sao Paulo). Her research spans the Sociology of Memory, Digital Sociology, Sociology of Artificial Intelligence, Sociology of Knowledge, and Social Theory, working with multi-methods.
